Learn New Words with AccelaStudy

Well, the App Store has finally opened and there are a lot of applications out there.  One that caught our attention is the line of foreign language applications called AccelaStudy.  Picking up new foreign language vocabulary is a perfect activity for a mobile device like the iPhone and AccelaStudy appears to be a great way to do just that.

We found the applications to have an accurate and comprehensive list of words in 41 useful categories.  An interesting example is Spices!  It’s rare to find a good phrasebook with a list of spices, much less a vocabulary building application.  The product website needs to list all of the categories so potential customers get a good preview of what is there.

The quiz feature is our favorite part of the app.  It almost makes learning vocabulary fun!  The interface is clean and reminds one of the built-in Weather app.  Cards are moved with fluid swipes and nicely animated flips.  There is also a handy search feature.

One caveat is that there is no pronunciation guide but we found we didn’t miss it.  Studying vocabulary tends to be a silent exercise.  The applications are priced somewhat higher than most of the other applications currently in the App Store but AccelaStudy feels very polished and stable and we tend to respect the old adage that “you get what you pay for”.

AccelaStudy is available in Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Turkish with several others coming available soon.  All versions are priced at $14.99 and on sale now.
